Kafika House

Kafika House has been a Telos partner since 2022. We’ve learned the voice, the values, the history, the team… It's the kind of knowledge that’s built on time and trust. We're in the Slack channels and the weekly meetings. When the founder needs a letter drafted for key stakeholders, or a fundraising campaign needs to be crafted, the brief can be brief, because the foundation is deep.

What began as a communications role has expanded into something harder to categorise: part strategist, part writer, part creative director, part institutional memory. As we navigate more milestones together, the relationship gets richer and we have more to bring to the work. Technically, we're an external service, but really – we’re an integral part of the team.

The Rebrand

We took the organisation’s audience through a coming-of-age transition from The Plaster House to Kafika House. The Plaster House had been a programme under the Lutheran Church, and the rebrand represented a brave, bold step into the world as an independent NGO.

The ongoing engine

Beyond the big events and one-off projects, there is the work that quietly ticks along.

We create bi-annual storytelling campaigns for fundraising, and quarterly newsletters to a global audience. We plan, write, and design them, coordinating across teams and time zones. We craft monthly blogs for the website, and thoughtful LinkedIn pieces for the founder’s account.

We write and curate the content for annual reports and websites, and we’re the natural point of contact for graphic designers, photographers and videographers.

We draw up briefs and steer the creative process, ensuring brand guidelines are upheld and beautiful work is delivered.

Underpinning everything is asset management — the database, Google Drive, and the systems. Mailing lists are maintained and kept clean, files organised and accessible, and institutional knowledge carefully held.

It is, in short, the work of a full-time in-house communications team — seamlessly delivered from the outside.

On Social Media

At Telos, we like to stick to our lane when it comes to social media. While we create the material that goes out, we don’t manage the platforms themselves. This means scheduling posts, responding to comments, and taking care of ongoing engagement is handled by someone specialised in that role.

Kafika House is a great example of this approach: we deliver a full month's worth of social content at a time — captions, accompanying images, all anchored to established content pillars — to a consultant social media manager, who posts and manages engagement across channels.

The result is a social presence that feels coherent, human, and consistent — because it’s created by someone who understands the organisation deeply, and managed by someone who understands the platforms to the same degree.

The Outreach Series

A four-part newsletter campaign telling the story of how Kafika House finds the children who fit their scope — through community drives, healthcare partnerships, and the mothers who become advocates and champions of the Kafika House cause.

The Content Ecosystem

Does this sound like you? The work we do for Kafika House doesn’t fit into a tidy job description – and that’s fitting for how far we’ve come together.

It lives somewhere between strategy and execution, between writing and thinking, between being inside an organisation and being just far enough outside it to see it clearly. We’re a safe pair of hands, trusted and familiar – part of the furniture, if you will.

If you like the idea of an in-house communications team without having to hire someone full-time, let’s talk.
